Newsrooms have shed over a third of their workforce since 2008. Journalism schools are training students for roles that no longer exist at scale. The field needs a new professional purpose — and a new argument for why the skills it teaches matter.

Every day, experienced professionals retire without documentation of what they actually knew — how they actually decided, what took decades to develop and cannot be replaced by a manual, a training module, or an AI model trained on generic text.
What Wisdom Journalism Is
Students are trained not to produce news content but to collect, structure, and preserve threshold professional experiences as Wisdom Nodes — discrete, transferable knowledge units designed to enter the Human Wisdom Database and become accessible to anyone who needs them. The curriculum framework is peer-reviewed. The pilot that validates it in practice is what we are building next.
What students do
Trained in structured interviewing, narrative construction, and elicitation methodology — the skills journalism has always taught, applied to a new purpose. Each student produces real Wisdom Nodes that enter the Human Wisdom Database.
What the work produces
Wisdom Nodes — six-component structured artifacts that capture how experienced professionals actually think and decide under pressure. Not summaries. Not testimonials. Structured knowledge that transfers what was previously untransferable.
Why it matters in the AI era
In a world transformed by AI, collecting lived human experience requires precisely the human skills AI cannot replicate — presence, trust, the ability to elicit what someone experienced rather than what they prepared to say.
The curriculum framework
The Wisdom Journalism methodology passed double-blind peer review — the framework has academic standing. The next step is real-world validation through a structured pilot. That is what we are building now, and it is what partner universities help create.
The Global Mission
What counts as a threshold moment in one culture is shaped by history, economic context, and social structure in ways completely different from another. A database that collects only one culture's wisdom will fail the people who most need it.
EdTerm is building a global network of university research partners — not implementation partners but cultural co-architects. Each regional partner helps define what wisdom transfer looks like in their specific context. Each partner contributes nodes that no other institution could produce.
We are actively seeking first partners across every continent. The methodology for collecting wisdom from a specific region can only be developed by someone who knows that region from the inside.
